With the holding of Turkish presidential elections, some members of the Taliban have asked the supporters of this group to pray for the victory of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The official spokespersons of the Taliban have not commented on the Turkish elections, but a number of supporters of this group have earnestly requested Mr. Erdogan’s support.

It seems that the Islamic tendencies of Mr. Erdogan, who has been in power for 20 years and has given at least one of Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions to the Taliban, has many fans among the supporters of this group.

A member of this group with the user name “Syed Jamal Agha” on Twitter, referring to the beginning of the counting of Turkish election votes, asked “all the Muslim Ummah” to pray for Mr. Erdogan’s victory.

Another member of this group by the name of user “Aftab Kochi” spoke on Twitter about Mr. Erdogan’s “lead” in the Turkish elections on Sunday (Turkey 24) and expressed happiness.

Another supporter of the Taliban group named “Omar Briyal” wrote on Twitter that in “the most important election in the history of Turkey”, two groups have faced each other: the “secular block” and the “relatively Muslim Erdogan” group.

This pro-Taliban user added that all the seculars have united against Mr. Erdogan to remove her from the power scene and open the way for the secularist Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the main rival of Mr. Erdogan.
