Wajiha, due to the fear of being deported back to Kabul, threats, mistreatment by the Iranian government and people towards Afghan refugees, and the pressure of three years of illegal migration, has lost her sleep. She was a former officer in the Afghan National Army who, after four years of service in the country’s military, fled to Iran following the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021. Wajiha complains about the mistreatment and the harsh living conditions in Iran.

Wajiha Noori, a former operational officer in the Afghan military and a graduate in law and journalism, had worked in domestic media for some time. Later, in pursuit of advocacy and the fight for women’s rights, she underwent military training. Speaking to the Afghan Women’s News Agency, she said: “I studied at the Officers’ Academy for about a year and took specialized commando courses for six months. In total, it took 18 months to join the military and the Afghan National Army.”
