US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a press conference that we will hold them accountable for not living up to many of our commitments, including women’s rights.
He also referred to the withdrawal of this country’s military forces from Afghanistan two years ago and called this decision very difficult but right.
He added: We have ended America’s longest war. For the first time in 20 years, another generation of young Americans is not going to Afghanistan to fight and die.
Blinken emphasized once again that the way to establish more and normal relations between the Taliban and the countries of the world is conditional on the respect of women’s rights in Afghanistan by this group.
The US Secretary of State further stated: We will continue to hold the Taliban accountable for not adhering to a large number of their commitments, especially regarding the rights of women and girls.
He continued: The way of any normal relations with the Taliban and other countries will be closed until the rights of women and girls are respected, among other issues.
Blinken also claimed that America’s enduring commitments to the Afghan people have not changed.
