United Nations: The decision to leave Afghanistan will be heartbreaking
UN officials say the organization is ready to make the “heartbreaking” decision to leave Afghanistan if they cannot convince the Taliban to allow women to work in UN offices.
Achim Steiner, director of the United Nations Development Program, told the Associated Press that officials of the organization are negotiating with the Taliban government, hoping that the Taliban will make an exception to the ruling that prohibits local women from working for the United Nations. According to him, human rights are not negotiable.
