The Taliban leader ordered the group’s cabinet to review the plan to shut down Facebook

According to the documents that reached the media, the leader of the Taliban ordered the group’s cabinet to review the plan to close Facebook.

In the order attributed to Hebatullah Akhundzadeh, it is stated that the Taliban Supreme Court should prepare this plan in coordination with the relevant departments and submit it to the cabinet.

This order is stated in the official letter of the head of government affairs of the Taliban, the supreme court of this group, which was issued on 21 Muharram al-Haram 1444 equal to 28 Jozai 1402.

According to this letter from the Taliban Affairs Directorate, the written order to the Taliban leader states: You must prepare a plan to limit or ban Facebook in coordination with the relevant departments.

In this order, it is also stated that the cost required for the implementation of this plan should be included in it.

Mohajer Farahi, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, on Monday (5th of Gemini), in response to a question about the authenticity of this letter, said that no order has yet been issued regarding the banning of Facebook, but there are talks about a plan and a solution.

The New York Times previously reported that Meta, the owner of Facebook, is gathering information and considering a plan to close the accounts of Taliban members on the WhatsApp social network.

The New York Times called WhatsApp the “backbone” of the Taliban’s communication system.

Previously, the Taliban had imposed restrictions on the broadcasting of some international media, such as the BBC and Voice of America. The group has also banned domestic media from broadcasting entertainment programs such as TV series and movies.

At the end of this year, 600 Afghan journalists wrote in a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations that freedom of expression has been severely restricted with the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan.
