Najibullah Ahmadzai was born in Paktia province and studied medicine.
But he never practiced medicine and while he was studying at university, he joined the flag branch of the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan and became a close associate of Barak Karmel and later became a member of the Central Committee of the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan. People’s Democratic Party and then a member of the “Revolutionary Council”. ” became.
After rapidly climbing the ranks of the party, he was appointed as Afghanistan’s ambassador to Iran by the ruling faction of the people. But after a short time he was exiled to Europe.
Najibullah Ahmadzai was in exile during the occupation of Afghanistan in 1979 and returned to Afghanistan after the Parkham faction led by Babrak Carmel came to power.
In 1980, Dr. Najib was appointed as the head of Khad, the intelligence department of the Afghan government, and was promoted to the rank of general. During the six years of Khad’s presidency, he had two to four deputies under his command, who in turn were responsible for 12 departments. Khad was one of the most feared institutions of the Afghan governments, which was supported by the Soviet Union.
In November 1985, he was appointed as the general secretary of the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan. At the same time, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, with the worsening situation in Afghanistan and looking for ways out of it, demanded the resignation of Babark Karmel from the general secretary of the People’s Democratic Party and supported Dr. Najib. and brought him to power.
At the same time as the attacks of the Afghan Mujahideen with the support of the West, the government of Najibullah Ahmadzai was supported by the Soviet Union, and Najibullah Ahmadzai could not escape from Afghanistan and became a refugee at the UN representative in Kabul.
With the beginning of civil wars between Mujahideen groups, the Taliban came out of southern Afghanistan and finally entered Kabul in September 1996.
On the evening of 5 Sanblah 1996, Najib was in the UN building when the Taliban forces went to him and kidnapped him from the UN representative office. The next day, his body was tied to the back of a car and displayed in the streets of Kabul. The fate of his brother Shahpur Ahmadzai was similar.
Later, they hung the bodies of Najibullah and Shahpur Ahmadzai on the traffic light poles in front of the presidential palace (Ariana intersection) and put money and cigarettes between their lifeless fingers to mock them.
Later, the Taliban prevented Najibullah and Shahpur Ahmadzai from holding funerals, prayers and bathing.
The bodies were later handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, after which they were transferred to Gardiz in Paktia Province, and Ahmadzai’s relatives buried them after offering prayers and performing the funeral.
After 2001 and with the fall of the first round of the Taliban government, this group entered the war and once again in 2015 they took out the remains of Dr. Najib’s body from the grave and destroyed it.
