Tension in the South China Sea; President of the Philippines to Beijing

The Philippine president did not elaborate on his country’s reaction. He stressed, however, that Manila’s response would be “proportionate, informed and rational”. At the same time, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. described the attacks on his country’s forces by the Chinese coast guard and paramilitary ships as “open, relentless, illegal, aggressive and dangerous.”
He added: The Philippines is not looking for a conflict with any country, but it will not remain silent.
The words of the President of the Philippines indicate the escalation of tension in China-Philippines relations. The two countries have a dispute over the ownership and control of the waters of the South China Sea. Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei are other parties that have made claims on China’s southern waters.
