Statement of Protest and Congratulations by the Afghan United Women’s Voice Organization (AUWVO) on the Occasion of International Mother Language Day
In the name of the compassionate God,
The Afghan United Women’s Voice Organization (AUWVO) congratulates all the people of Afghanistan, especially the women and girls of our beloved country, on the occasion of February 21st, International Mother Language Day, and at the same time, expresses its protest regarding the violation of the linguistic rights of the people of Afghanistan by the Taliban regime.
Mother language is not only a means of communication, but also a fundamental part of the individual and collective identity of any nation. In Afghanistan, mother languages, especially Dari Persian, play a significant role in preserving the history, culture, and human dignity of the people of this land. No one, especially the Taliban, has the right to erase or suppress the mother language of the people of Afghanistan.
As an organization defending the rights of women and children, we strongly protest the Taliban’s attempts to remove the Dari Persian language from education, media, and daily life. This action not only violates the basic rights of the people of Afghanistan but also poses a serious threat to our cultural and national identity.
The Afghan United Women’s Voice Organization (AUWVO) believes that respecting mother languages, especially Dari Persian, must be considered a fundamental human and human rights principle in Afghan society. The right to education in one’s mother language for all Afghans, particularly for women and girls, is one of their basic rights that must never be ignored.
On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, we also extend our congratulations to the people of Afghanistan, especially to the women and girls, and emphasize that through collective and united efforts, we must protect our mother languages and preserve them in all social and educational fields.
Happy International Mother Language Day to all our dear compatriots, especially the women and girls of Afghanistan, who have the right for their mother language to be fully recognized in society.
Respectfully,
Afghan United Women’s Voice Organization (AUWVO)
