Tehran Open to Nuclear Negotiations, Rules Out Talks on Missile Capabilities

Iran Signals Readiness for Nuclear Negotiations with the United States, Reaffirms “Red Lines” on Missile Program

Tehran — Iran has expressed its willingness to resume negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program, while firmly reiterating that its missile program and defensive capabilities remain non-negotiable, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Araghchi stated that Tehran remains committed to addressing nuclear-related issues through diplomatic channels. However, he underscored that Iran’s missile systems and broader defense infrastructure are matters of national sovereignty and security, and therefore fall outside the scope of any potential negotiations.

His remarks come at a time of renewed diplomatic attention, following an announcement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan offering Ankara’s support in mediating between Tehran and Washington. Erdoğan indicated that Turkey is prepared to facilitate dialogue aimed at easing tensions and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries.

The possibility of renewed talks emerges after months of heightened rhetoric and strained relations between Iran and the United States, particularly over sanctions, regional security issues, and Tehran’s nuclear commitments. Despite signaling openness to diplomacy, Iranian officials continue to stress that any future negotiations must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and must safeguard Iran’s strategic and security interests.
