Free Media and Journalists’ Activity Should Be Grantee as a Human Right in Afghanistan
Third of May World Press Freedom Day has been recognized as world day by United Nations that celebrating this important day in Afghanistan as well. This day indeed indicates respect and revere to the free media activity of media outlets.
One of the most important achievements of last two decades is free media activity, freedom of expression and access to information in Afghanistan. But in last two years free media activity has changed to a serious challenge in Afghanistan. After the political changes more than half of media outlets due to current challenges and economic problems have been stopped, and beside that more 65% of journalists and media workers lost their jobs. Financial challenges have caused that media sector gravely hurt.
Currently free media activity, freedom of expression, access to information and journalists safety conditions are concerning, and continuing of this situation can be more vulnerable for free media activity.
Nai Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan once again calls on international organizations to support media outlets and journalists in Afghanistan, and do act based on their two last decades commitments.
Nai expects the international community and media supporting organizations to not abandon journalism community and Afghan journalists in international level. The progress of international supports can be grantee the basic values such as freedom of expression, access to information and free media activity in Afghanistan.
