Pakistani and Taliban Officials Arrive in Doha for Peace Talks
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, announced this morning (Saturday, October 19) on his X (formerly Twitter) account that, in accordance with the agreement to hold peace talks with the Pakistani delegation in Doha, a high-ranking delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan led by Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Acting Minister of Defense, has departed for Doha today.
He strongly condemned last night’s attacks by the Pakistani military on Afghanistan’s Paktika province, describing them as assaults on civilian areas that caused the deaths and injuries of several noncombatants.
Mujahid stated that the Taliban reserves the right to respond to Pakistan’s aggression and violation of Afghan territorial sovereignty but instructed Taliban fighters to refrain from any new movements in order to preserve the dignity and respect of the negotiating team.
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that Afghanistan remains committed to a peaceful resolution and regional stability, adding that “whatever occurs is the consequence of Pakistan’s aggression.”
