
Pakistan: We cannot cooperate with Afghan refugees
The Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations announced that this country cannot cooperate with Afghan refugees from now on.
Mohammad Amir Khan, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, said that the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan has caused millions of people to migrate to save themselves from hunger and poverty, and Pakistan has also been affected by this situation.
He added that the government of Pakistan can no longer cooperate with Afghan refugees and Afghans should be hosted by other members of the international community.
On the other hand, Abdul Jabbar Takhari, the consul general of the Afghan government in Karachi, announced that there are more than 2.5 million Afghan immigrants in Pakistan, of which 300,000 lack legal documents.
At the end of June, the newspaper “News” of Pakistan reported that 350 Afghan refugees have been detained in Islamabad, and the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan is increasing detentions and cracking down on refugees and illegal immigrants.
Sources in the Ministry of Interior of Pakistan have also told this newspaper that the target of this arrest is the illegal asylum seekers who were also present in the demonstration of “Imran Khan” supporters.
