Germany opposes humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza
At the meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states in Luxembourg, Germany opposed the request for a humanitarian ceasefire.
According to Analena Berbuk, the fight against terrorism is a fundamental goal.
Referring to the behavior of the Islamist group Hamas, the German Foreign Minister added: We see that Israel is still the target of missile attacks. Only if terrorism is fought, peace and stability will be established for Israel and the Palestinians.
Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for a “humanitarian ceasefire” for the Gaza Strip. In the European Union, this idea has been discussed and supported by a number of members. Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, as well as EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, have supported the call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
On the other hand, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic are against the request for a cease-fire for Gaza under these conditions.
