Germany is the largest exporter of European chocolate to the world
New data published by the European Union’s statistics center, Eurostat, indicates that in 2023, 867,000 tons of chocolate will be transported from the European Union to countries around the world, which shows an increase of 2% compared to last year.
The highest amount of chocolate in the European Union last year was 221,000 tons through Germany. In this way, Germany has 26% of the total EU chocolate market.
The Netherlands and Poland are ranked second and third among European chocolate exporting countries with the export of 123 thousand and 115 thousand tons of chocolate and bar chocolate.
Two countries, Belgium and Italy, are also in the fourth and fifth ranks of this list.
Germans are very fond of sweet products, especially chocolate. Every German consumes 11 kilos of chocolate annually, which is the highest consumption among the EU countries. The Swiss are in second place with 10 kilos of chocolate per year, and Nerjo is in third place with one kilo less. In the European Union, Bulgarians have the lowest consumption of chocolate per capita with 1.3 kg.
