Deportation Order Issued for Undocumented Foreign Nationals in Iran(Report by Ahmad Sohail Parto)
According to new enforcement policies issued by the law enforcement authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, all undocumented foreign nationals are now required to leave the country. Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, Commander of the Iranian Border Police (FARAJA), stated that organizing and deporting undocumented migrants is a public demand in Iran.
He further emphasized that, under the current directive, any residential property rented to Afghan nationals will have its tenancy agreement declared void. The properties in question are subject to sealing, confiscation, and in some cases, full state seizure.
This ruling has sparked serious concern among Afghan migrants living in Iran, many of whom have invested their entire life savings as advance rent or security deposits for housing. With the sudden enforcement of deportation, these individuals now face not only forced expulsion but also the potential total loss of their financial deposits.
Reports indicate that in numerous cases, landlords have refused to return the prepaid rent, inflicting severe financial damage on the migrants. Most troubling is the fact that many of those being deported are given no opportunity to collect their personal belongings or household items before removal.
This distressing situation unfolds against a backdrop of severe economic hardship already endured by many Afghan migrants in Iran. For most, the rental deposit paid to landlords represents their only form of capital or financial stability.
Legally speaking, the nullification of a contract implies that both parties should be returned to their original state prior to the agreement. Therefore, it is expected that relevant Iranian authorities issue a clear and lawful stance on the reimbursement of security deposits and the financial rights of Afghan migrants.
Amid these developments, alarming reports have also emerged from the Islam Qala border crossing. According to received information, several members of the former Afghan National Army who were deported from Iran and reentered Afghanistan have been taken to an unknown location by Taliban forces. Their current whereabouts remain unknown, raising serious concerns among families and human rights advocates.
This incident raises a red flag regarding the fate of those deported to Afghanistan, especially individuals at risk of political retaliation or personal danger. International organizations and human rights groups are calling for an immediate investigation and full transparency on the condition and location of the detained individuals.
