The color and smell of Afghanistan: the boom in the export of handwoven carpets
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Taliban announced a significant increase in the export of Afghan handwoven carpets to different parts of the world.
Abdul Majid Qiyam, the head of the industrial estates of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: Last year, we exported nearly 995 thousand square meters of handwoven carpets worth more than 17 million dollars to 31 countries.
The announcement of a total of 17 million dollars of Afghanistan’s carpet exports shows that the handwoven carpet industry in the country has achieved relatively good growth with the increase in production and the development of global markets.
Because of the high quality of the raw materials used and the artistic fingers of the “native carpet” weavers, most of whom are women, Afghanistan’s hand-woven carpet has many buyers in the domestic and international markets.
