America will not give up on Imran Khan.Pakistan has brought new charges against Imran Khan for leaking state secrets
The former prime minister of Pakistan accused the US of plotting to overthrow him. In doing so, he released a confidential document as evidence. This document appears to be diplomatic correspondence between the then Pakistani ambassador to the US and Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s interior minister on Wednesday accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan of releasing a “secret document” last year that claimed he was ousted for conspiring with Washington.
Interior Minister Rana Nasullah said in Islamabad that the government plans to file a criminal complaint against Imran Khan for this action. The misuse of an official and confidential document by the former prime minister has damaged Pakistan’s foreign relations.
Imran Khan was able to mobilize masses of people to come to the streets after the vote of no confidence in him by the parliament in 2022 and the overthrow of his government. Khan sees this as a conspiracy with a known accused. He blamed the American government for his downfall.
Azam Khan, Imran Khan’s former secretary, said the secret document Khan was referring to was apparently diplomatic correspondence between Pakistan’s then ambassador to the United States, Asad Majid Khan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. Pakistan’s military and the Washington DC and Sharif governments have denied any conspiracy against Khan. In a recent interview with Zoddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, Khan said:
“On April 9, 2022, my government was dismissed, a month before that I received a message from my ambassador in Washington after a meeting with the US Secretary of State. The foreign minister said in this statement that if Imran Khan is not removed by a vote of no confidence, there will be consequences for Pakistan. This message was definitely not for me, but for the army commander. Within weeks, coalition partners and supporters said goodbye. “But it was the army commander who led this coup.”
More than 150 cases have been filed against Imran Khan, including several on charges of corruption, terrorism and incitement to violence related to deadly May protests in which his supporters attacked government and military properties across the country.
Imran Khan’s person has so far remained untouched, although dozens of corruption cases are pending against him. Instead, PTI’s security apparatus attacked Imran Khan. In the days following the riots in early May, during which groups set fire to the army chief’s house in Lahore, dozens of Tehreek-e-Insaf members were arrested on charges of “inciting sedition”.
Imran Khan has repeatedly called the accusations against him, including terrorist accusations, a political conspiracy by his successor, Shehbaz Sharif, the current prime minister, and considered his removal illegal and the result of a western conspiracy.
