Afghan Carpet Wins First Place for Design at the International DOMOTEX Istanbul Exhibition

 

At the International DOMOTEX Istanbul Exhibition, held on Sunday, 21 Jadi, with the participation of 19 countries, Afghan carpets won first place in the Best Design category.

According to reports by Afghanistan’s National Television, currently under Taliban control, as well as Turkish media outlets, representatives from 50 countries visited the exhibition in Istanbul, Türkiye. The award for Best Design was presented to one of the Afghan carpet manufacturing companies led by Sediq Quraishi.

Abdullah Rahman Gul, Head of the Union of Carpet Producers and Exporters, told Afghanistan’s National Television that receiving this award is a major achievement and can play an important role in the development of Afghanistan’s carpet industry.

Sayed Hamad Hashemi, the Taliban’s commercial attaché in Istanbul, also described the award as a significant success for Afghanistan.

This marks the second time that Afghan carpet producing and exporting companies have participated in the International DOMOTEX Istanbul Exhibition.

DOMOTEX Istanbul is considered one of the most prestigious carpet exhibitions in the world and annually hosts carpet producers from various countries.

Previously, in the month of Sawr this year, Ahmed Dealer, Head of the Turkish Carpet Union, stated that Türkiye would facilitate the export of Afghan carpets to Europe by reducing taxes on them.

Afghanistan is among the well-known countries in carpet production and export, with a large number of girls and women actively working in this sector.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated that in the past Gregorian year, Afghanistan exported carpets and kilims worth more than USD 18 million to various countries, including Pakistan, Türkiye, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, China, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, and India.
