Hekmatyar: A ruler imposed on the people by force will eventually face public resistance

(Report by Ahmad Sohail Parto)

The leader of the Hezb-e-Islami party has warned that tyranny, oppression, censorship, violation of freedom of expression, and instilling fear in people shorten the lifespan of regimes and lead them toward collapse. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, without directly naming the Taliban leadership, stated that any ruler imposed on the people by force will eventually face public resistance.

On Sunday (28 June), Hekmatyar wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page:

“Where human dignity is not preserved, where the sanctity of homes is not respected, where votes and human rights are disregarded, and a ruler is imposed on the people by force—looking down on them with contempt, seeing himself as the master and the people as slaves—then every honorable person in such a place feels like a falcon in a cage.”

He added that every individual in this land will eventually try to break out of that cage, “and if they do not, they are truly a slave.”

Although Hekmatyar did not explicitly mention the Taliban, in his earlier Eid message he had referred to Afghanistan’s past conflicts, saying that the only real path to lasting peace is through honest and unconditional dialogue among all parties.

Hekmatyar insists that power must be transferred peacefully and through the will of the people.

He warned that “repeating the bitter policies of the past and relying again on foreigners” will push the country back into previous crises.
