7-Day Deadline: U.S. Orders Thousands of Afghan Migrants to Leave
California – Afghan News24
In a concerning development, thousands of Afghan migrants residing in California—particularly in the Bay Area—have received official letters from U.S. authorities ordering them to leave the country within seven days.
The message in the letters is blunt:
“The federal government will find you. Leave the United States immediately.”
This drastic measure is part of former President Donald Trump’s renewed immigration policy, aimed at suspending Afghan refugee resettlement programs and intensifying the deportation of undocumented migrants. While official figures are not yet confirmed, estimates suggest over 16,000 Afghans could be affected.
Human rights advocates, immigration attorneys, and refugee aid organizations have condemned the move, calling it a violation of humanitarian principles and international law. Many of these individuals fled war and violence in Afghanistan in recent years and had filed asylum claims in the U.S.
