Presidential System: A Wrong Choice for Afghanistan!

Mohammad Omar Daudzai, former Minister of Interior of Afghanistan, criticized the presidential system during a session of the “Afghanistan War Commission” in the U.S. Senate, calling it a factor behind political divisions and widespread public dissatisfaction.

On Friday, April 11, Daudzai stated in the session that the presidential system was a wrong choice for Afghanistan.

He emphasized that a parliamentary system could have been a better option, as it would have allowed for a more equitable distribution of power among institutions.

Pointing to the deep political rifts, Daudzai said the presidential system had been imposed on the Afghan people, which not only intensified governance problems but also caused widespread dissatisfaction among various segments of society.

He also mentioned the previous Afghan government’s disregard for the Taliban’s peace proposal, stating that this decision destroyed opportunities for peace.
