‘Human dignity is not dead; it is still alive.'”

We commend the outstanding and courageous efforts of human rights organizations such as the German Institute for Human Rights, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch in defending human rights and refugees, as well as the German government for accepting Afghan refugees, particularly women and local employees who are at serious risk.

However, we emphasize that the security and human rights situation of Afghan women and local employees remains extremely critical. The Taliban, through the establishment of a gender-apartheid regime and the commission of serious crimes against humanity, has escalated gross and systematic human rights violations against women and various minorities.

Under the Taliban’s rule, Afghan women have not only been deprived of their basic rights, including personal freedoms and employment rights, but they are also extensively subjected to physical and psychological threats, sexual violence, physical and mental torture, and arbitrary detention.

It is increasingly urgent that Afghan women and local employees, who are at grave risk due to their collaboration with international organizations and Western governments, particularly Germany, be swiftly relocated without delay. These individuals are not only deprived of their basic rights, but their lives are also in danger.

Therefore, we expect the German government to expedite the process of relocating Afghan refugees, in line with its humanitarian and international commitments, and to provide asylum to those most at risk.

Additionally, we call upon the German government to remain committed to its responsibilities and adhere to its international obligations in supporting human rights. At the same time, stronger measures should be taken to expel Taliban supporters, lobbyists, and criminals from Germany to prevent the country from becoming a haven for war criminals and human rights violators.

Finally, the importance of protecting the rights of Afghan women and local employees during this critical time cannot be overstated. Afghan women and local employees are among those facing the most severe threats, and in many cases, their lives are at risk solely because of their humanitarian and professional commitments. To ensure a safe and sustainable future, it is crucial that these groups be prioritized for resettlement and provided with the necessary support.
