The Union of Human Rights Activists has described the Taliban’s decision to close medical institutions to women and girls as “ugly and cruel,” adding that this decree is part of a series of discriminatory actions against women.((Report by: Ahmad Sohail Parto))
The union’s statement reads:
“In a situation where the country loses 24 mothers and 167 children daily due to preventable diseases, the closure of medical educational institutions means absolute deprivation of female doctors for the people in the near future.”
The Union of Human Rights Activists characterized the Taliban’s decision as a form of “gender apartheid” and warned:
“This decision, as the World Health Organization has cautioned, will push the country’s health and medical system to the brink of complete collapse.”
