Following the statements of the authorities of the Islamic Republic against Afghan nationals in Iran, the governor of Tehran has threatened that unauthorized nationals will be deprived of urban and non-urban services.

Alireza Fakhari said in a conversation with Mehr reporter on Saturday: Illegal citizens should leave the country immediately and this plan is a serious and obvious thing that should be done at the level of Tehran province.

Iranian authorities usually use the word “nationals” to refer to Afghan nationals residing in Iran, regardless of whether their presence is legal or illegal.

In recent months, many reports about the arrest and deportation of foreign nationals from Iran were published in the domestic media, and although the citizenship of these people was not mentioned in these reports, the summary of other reports in this field shows that most of these people are citizens of Afghanistan.

Also, the statements of the Iranian authorities are raised while the sensitivities regarding the presence of immigrants in Iran have increased in social networks in recent weeks, and supporters and opponents are fighting each other over this issue.

Less than a month ago, the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army said that illegal immigrants should leave Iran and return to their country by the end of the year.

According to Ahmadreza Radan, “policies and programs based on the return of all nationals are illegal.”

Now the governor of Tehran says: Illegal immigrants will be deprived of services and expenses related to urban and non-urban areas in places where there are illegal citizens will definitely be taken from them.

He did not mention more details about this exception, its dimensions and what he meant by “costs”.

Alireza Fakhari also said: “The police force is busy daily “refining” authorized and unauthorized citizens, and people whose residence dates have expired should immediately leave the country or get a new residence permit.

In August of this year, the video published on social networks, which showed the violent treatment of Iranian police officers with an Afghan immigrant, was met with widespread reactions.

Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said earlier that nearly 1.3 million foreign nationals were “deported” last year.
