According to the regional office of Tasnim News Agency, Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Minister of Interior of the Taliban government, and Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador in Kabul, discussed security issues.
The Taliban government’s Ministry of Interior announced in a statement that Haqqani emphasized the continuation of cooperation between Kabul and Moscow, the development of bilateral relations and the establishment of more security cooperation.
According to this statement, the two sides also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and the region. Timofey Bolikov, head of Asia programs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in early January that an agreement with the Taliban government was possible.
Russian media quoted this diplomat and reported that Moscow’s relations with the Taliban government are expanding.
Bolikov also emphasized that Russia wants to expand relations with the Taliban in order to develop trade and economy.
“Zamir Kabulov” also recently said in a meeting with Sirajuddin Haqqani that the security established in Afghanistan is in the interest of the region.
