Acting Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar Haq Kakar, in his first exclusive interview with a media in Afghanistan, has talked about the “Durand Line” as the international border between the two countries and the legitimacy of the Taliban government.
He said that the countries of the region want the Taliban government in Kabul to be recognized, but they “expect” this government.
In an exclusive interview of Mr. Kakar with the private Tolo News TV in Kabul, which was published last night, he said: “Almost all countries in the region want the Afghan government [Taliban] to be recognized. I can’t say when it will be. It’s done.” ”
In response to a question about the border of the two countries known as the Durand Line, which a member of the Taliban cabinet recently called an “imaginary” line, the Acting Prime Minister of Pakistan said: “The United Nations and 206 countries have accepted it.” That this is an international border and despite that, whether the Afghans say anything about it or not, I am not interested in this matter.
Earlier, Noorullah Nouri, the Minister of Taliban Tribal Affairs, said during a visit to the Torkham border crossing that the border line between the two countries, known as the Durand Line, is a “fake” line. We do not have a border zero point. There is an imaginary line between us. The 1893 Durand Line demarcated the territory between Afghanistan and British India and was signed by Abdul Rahman, the then King of Afghanistan, and Sir Mortimer Durand, the British representative.
Last year, relations between Kabul and Islamabad soured after Anwar Haq Kakar’s decision to deport some 1.7 million mostly Afghan migrants without residency documents in the country after November 1.
He has repeatedly talked about the activities and shelters of the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan.
