Pakistani media have reported that the Pakistan-Afghanistan border crossing has been reopened, but the underlying tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan have not yet been resolved.

Official sources revealed to The Express Tribune that the main reason for the ongoing tension between Pakistan and the Taliban is the lack of action against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The Torkham border crossing was closed on September 6 when Pakistani security forces and the Taliban exchanged fire over a dispute over the construction of a new shell along the border, media reported.

Both sides have accused each other of starting the conflict and closing the crossing.

While the Taliban side claims that it is rebuilding an old shell on its side, Pakistan claimed that the Taliban is building a new shell on Pakistani soil.

However, The Express Tribune, citing Pakistani officials, writes that beneath the surface of the border dispute lies a deeper issue: the existence of TTP sanctuaries across the border.
