Farouk Fateh Ozer, the founder of the Todex digital currency exchange, was sentenced to nearly 11,200 years in prison for fraud and money laundering in Turkey.
Two years ago, he closed the exchange and fled from Turkey with the capital of two billion dollars of his clients.
It is said that two billion dollars belonged to more than 400 thousand customers who had delivered to this digital exchange.
Farouk Fateh Ozer along with his siblings were arrested by Interpol police after a year of fleeing in Albania and taken to Turkey.
The Turkish court accused Fatih Ozer of “establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime”, “fraud using information systems as a tool of banks or credit institutions” and “money laundering of property values”. More than 11,000 businessmen or managers of cooperative companies were sentenced to one year in prison.
In addition, the Turkish court imposed a fine of five million dollars on Fatih Ozer.
In addition to these defendants, 21 other defendants were also interrogated on charges of cooperation with the digital currency exchange “Tadex” and finally 17 were sentenced to imprisonment.
The rest of the defendants were also released due to insufficient evidence.
However, the CEO of the Tadex digital currency exchange defended himself in court, claiming that his company failed and had no criminal motive.
