An Emirati businessman who has tutored dozens of female Afghan students at Dubai University says he is disappointed by the Taliban’s decision to prevent them from leaving Kabul airport.
Khalaf Ahmad Al-Habtoor, the head of Al-Habtoor Company, said that he has provided higher education to one hundred Afghan female students at Dubai University.
Mr. Habtoor called this decision of the Taliban unfair and demanded a review.
On Wednesday, the Taliban authorities prevented about 70 girls, some of them Sharia Muharram, from traveling to Dubai for their studies.
One of these girls told the BBC that at least 12 of them planned to travel with their Muharram.
The Taliban have yet to provide a reason for their decision, and despite repeated attempts by the BBC, Taliban spokespeople refused to speak.
The Taliban leader has already issued decrees calling it “illegal” and banning Afghan girls and women from traveling without a male companion.
