For the first time, an Afghan athlete won a gold medal in the international open taekwondo competition in Korea

Ali Akbar Amiri, the national taekwondo player of Afghanistan, won the gold medal in the international open taekwondo competition in Korea. This is the first time that an Afghan athlete has won a gold medal in this competition.
Amiri won the first place in the 87 kg weight category of this tournament by winning against Abdul Razzaq Isofu from Nigeria.
Isofu won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, the best result for a Nigerian at the Olympics.
He has won gold medals in several other major tournaments including the World Taekwondo Championships, the African Championships and the African Games.
Amiri from Afghanistan defeated his competitors from Canada, Kazakhstan and South Korea in the international open taekwondo tournament in Korea.
