For the first time, a mountaineer from Afghanistan has succeeded in conquering the 8849-meter peak of Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Speaking to the BBC from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, Samiuddin Siddiqui said that after 5 days of breathtaking climbing, he reached the top of Everest in the morning of May 17.

He added that in order to walk this difficult and dangerous path, he did six months of continuous and focused physical training.

Ali Akbar Sakhi, another mountaineer from Afghanistan, died of cardiac arrest last year on the way to the summit of K2, the second highest peak in the world.
