The Suspicious Disappearance of Afghan Migrant Women in Iran:
Samane Tajik, a Girl Who Is Only 15 Years Old
Samane Tajik, a 15-year-old Afghan migrant girl, disappeared on July 15, 2025, in the Chahardangeh Hassanabad area of Tehran, Iran. Six days have passed, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
Her father is currently imprisoned, and her mother passed away about two years ago. Left without any guardian or support, Samaneh has been completely abandoned. Despite the dire circumstances, the Iranian government has yet to take any serious action to investigate or assist in locating her.
At this time, there is no information regarding Samane’s location, the conditions she is in, or even whether she is still alive. Like thousands of other young Afghan migrant girls who came to Iran seeking safety and a better life, Samaneh now finds herself utterly vulnerable—homeless, without family or legal protectionand exposed to the most severe forms of violence, exploitation, and injustice.
Do not wait for another dismembered body to be discovered.
Do not wait for Samaneh to become another victim, like Kobra Rezaei, an Afghan migrant girl whose mutilated body was found 50 days after she went missing, adding yet another silent name to the list of victims in this land.
Before it’s too late, save Samane. Before she becomes another victim of murder and cruelty, be her voice.
By seeking justice and supporting Samaneh, show that she is not alone.
Samaneh symbolizes the voice of thousands of Afghan migrant girls in Iran, girls who live every day in fear of abduction, sexual violence, racial discrimination, forced deportation, and being sent back to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Girls who are imprisoned by fear within their own homes.
The kidnapping of Samane and the suspicious murders of Afghan migrant women and girls—coinciding with a sharp increase in the forced deportations of thousands of Afghan nationals from Iran—have created a wave of fear and despair among migrant girls, especially young ones.
We call on human rights organizations to urgently intervene and increase pressure on the Iranian government. Legal, psychological, and social support for migrant girls—especially those without guardians—is an urgent and vital necessity.
Forced detentions and deportations of Afghan migrants must also cease immediately.
We also urge international bodies, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UNICEF, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and other organizations working on migration and human rights, to urgently address Samane’s disappearance, hold the Iranian government accountable, and implement stronger protective mechanisms for Afghan migrants in Iran.
Today is the time for action—not belated mourning.
